Emotional Intelligence
This skills-based training helps clinical staff strengthen Emotional Intelligence (EI) for safer, more effective, and more compassionate care. Participants will learn practical tools to increase self-awareness, regulate stress responses, recognize emotions in others, and respond skillfully in challenging interactions with clients, families, and colleagues. Through brief teaching, video-based discussion, guided reflection, and experiential practice (including role-plays and peer coaching), learners will translate EI concepts into real-time strategies they can use immediately in clinical settings—especially during conflict, escalation, feedback conversations, and high-pressure moments.
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Define emotional intelligence and describe how EI impacts clinical engagement, de-escalation, teamwork, and outcomes.
- Identify personal stress cues and emotional triggers (body sensations, thoughts, impulses) using a trigger-chain or “emotion map” tool.
- Accurately label emotions and underlying needs in themselves and others to reduce reactivity and increase clarity in communication.
- Demonstrate at least two self-regulation strategies (e.g., pause skills, grounding, breath-based tools) during simulated clinical stress scenarios.
- Apply empathy and attunement skills (e.g., reflective listening, validation) to improve rapport and reduce escalation in client/staff interactions.
- Use an EI-based conflict and feedback framework to navigate difficult conversations while maintaining boundaries and respect.
- Develop a personal EI action plan (micro-habits + if/then plan) to support ongoing practice, resilience, and compassion satisfaction at work.
