Motivational Interviewing Intermediate: Strengthening Your Practice

This intermediate-level workshop is designed for participants who already have an emerging or solid foundation in Motivational Interviewing (MI) and are ready to deepen their skills. The session focuses on building confidence and competence through guided practice, coaching, and real-world application of MI techniques.

Participants will spend significant time practicing and refining advanced MI strategies that support meaningful behavior change conversations. The workshop explores how to more effectively elicit and respond to change talk using the DARN-CAT framework, navigate and work skillfully with ambivalence, and strengthen conversations through complex affirmations and reflections.

Throughout the training, participants will also develop skills in maintaining equipoise, applying the Ask–Offer–Ask framework when sharing information, and responding constructively to sustain talk and discord. The goal is to help practitioners remain grounded in the spirit of MI while confidently guiding conversations that support autonomy, insight, and forward movement.

This session is highly interactive and practice-focused, providing opportunities to apply techniques through structured exercises and discussion. Participants will leave with strengthened MI skills they can immediately use in conversations with clients, patients, colleagues, and community members.

Lunch will be provided. If you have any dietary allergies/ restrictions, please email us at CCNWebinars@carecompassnetwork.org. We will do our best to accommodate your needs.
