Youth Mental Health First Aid Training

As part of Care Compass Network’s SAMHSA Mental Health Awareness Training Grant (MHAT) Suicide Prevention & Training Program for Students & their Community Network of Safety (SAPTP), we are excited  to sponsor the Youth Mental Health First Aid training with the goal of creating a safe space and fostering a culture of openness regarding mental health discussions; to minimize stigma surrounding mental health, and to strengthen our ability to provide emotional support for each other during times of crisis and traumatic events in our schools, organization, community, and beyond.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders.

This training as a maximum capacity of 30 attendees.

Prior to the training, please complete the following:
1.5 hours of pre-work prior to the start of the training. THIS IS A REQUIREMENT FOR THE TRAINING.
